Jeff Hyatt, M.E.T.

Jeffrey D. Hyatt is a mechanical investigator with over 28 years of experience. He holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Southern College of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. Jeff has extensive knowledge and skills in failure analysis and accident reconstruction of various automotive components and vehicles including cars, bikes, motorcycles, forklifts, heavy trucks, and aircraft. He also has investigated and consulted on ATV/ UTV accidents and roll-over protective systems for lawn mowers and off-road recreational vehicles. Jeff is also proficient in product liability and consumer product investigations.


In addition, Jeff is experienced with workman’s compensation investigations, machine safeguarding, machine components, and golf car failures and accidents. His memberships include the ANSI Golf Car standard. Jeff Hyatt has received formal training in 3D scanning, heavy truck brake systems, and aircraft investigations. He also holds a CDL as well as a private pilot license. Under the leadership of Jeff Hyatt, SpecTest Forensics (or STF) also performs non-destructive evaluations of various types of equipment, systems, and components.


Jeff Hyatt is a renowned investigator and a trusted expert consultant. He has worked with both manufacturers and legal firms, either as a plaintiff or a defense expert, and has been deposed more than 140 times for various specialties in legal cases in both federal and state courts. Raymond “James” Colbert Jr.

Raymond “James” Colbert Jr. is a mechanical investigator and Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) with over 6 years of experience. He holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia. James has extensive knowledge and skills in failure analysis of various automotive components and vehicles including cars, bikes, motorcycles, forklifts, heavy trucks, heavy equipment and aircraft.

His memberships include the American Welding Society (AWS) where his CWI certification is maintained. James has received formal training in HVAC system design, MEP system design, as well as welding, fabrication, 3d printing/scanning, and product certification and testing. He has worked with manufacturers, inventors, and legal firms, testing their products for design and litigation purposes.

Jacob Elrod

Jacob Elrod is a mechatronic forensic investigator with a decade of experience. He holds a B.S. degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia. Jacob has extensive knowledge and skill in failure analysis and accident reconstruction specializing in Dash Camera Analysis as well as Event Data Recorder (EDR)/Collision Data Recorder (CDR) retrieval and analysis. He also has investigated and consulted on various electronic related failures, building defects, and other consumer product related investigations.

In addition, Jacob is experienced with 3D scanning, 3D scene recreation, 3D animation, machine safeguarding, and other industrial accident investigations. Under his guidance, Jacob started and built the Computed Tomography (CT) lab located at Applied Technical Services in Marietta, Georgia. While he has been with SpecTest, Jacob has maintained close ties with the ATS CT lab in order to perform non-destructive examinations of various equipment and components.
